Going blonde isn’t easy – even if you’re a natural blonde and want to change back from a darker colour. I learnt this in January, when after a fight with my Boyfriend, I drove down to the hair salon and not only had a few inches of hair chopped off but had my hair bleached from burgundy, to a strange coppery color. My hair was probably long enough to touch the band of my bra, and it was just a knotted mess all the time. I’ve never grown my hair out that long, so I was quite attached to it, but it was getting to the stage where I was doing nothing with it but putting it in a ponytail or a sockbun (bless the sock bun!). I’d wanted to go lighter for a long time, and in my more depressed days, I’d bleached my own hair a few times, but not been smart enough to buy a toner – for the love of all that is holy, please never do that unless you know what you’re doing, which none of us really do! The result was about 4 inches shorter, and lighter
I do miss my black hair sometimes
This was taken a few weeks before I decided to chop my hair off
So now that my hair looked like this, I wanted more – the ends were still too red, and the roots weren’t light enough
So another salon visit later, I had this going on – finally getting there! My ends were still very red, but I was definitely a lot blonder, and finally starting to see a change
Two months down the road, this is what my hair looks like. The stylist I went to was clever enough to layer out a lot of the redness, but I can still see some of it – there are two massive streaks around my face that are absolutely driving me insane, but my hair is too fragile right now to do much about them – it will just have to wait a while.
I’ve been using the John Frieda toning shampoo and conditioner, but I definitely need to get myself a treatment – I was curling my hair yesterday, and I could hear it making funny crackling noises, which I can only assume was the screams of hair frying!
What do you think? I’m rather enjoying being blonde, and I’ve definitely been having a lot more fun! I’m not quite done yet – hopefully in a month or two I can have the last of the red bleached out, and my hair will be an even blonde, and from there I can just do roots (until I get bored and dye it another colour!)
Hugs, and sloppy doxie kisses
