Welcome back to Countdown to I Do – this week I really wanted to
rant blog about inspiration boards, particularly on Pinterest
I can never decide if Pinterest is a help or a hindrance. There is honestly so much pressure to have a Pinteresty/quirky/funky/unique/special/pretty wedding that I often find myself staring at Pinterest thinking to myself that no matter what my wedding will not be good enough. How nuts is that? I read sites like Southbound Bride or Rock n Roll Bride and I find myself feeling inadequate, and I worry my wedding will be inadequate. I spend hours agonizing over things we haven’t even planned yet, and think “I really can’t do x because it’s not cool enough” or “X did this at their wedding, it was so amazing but if I do the same it will come off as a cheap copy-cat move”. It’s absolutely maddening, and it’s ridiculous.
I have a pinboard, mostly because my venue is 1500km away and we’re planning this long-distance (more on that soon), and it’s hard to share ideas and inspiration over the phone, or via whatsapp, particularly because the farm doesn’t always have great signal, but with Pinterest, I can pin a few ideas, and when MIL is back in reach she can just hop onto Pinterest, and have a look. It’s also just a great place to group images and articles together, without having to sift through emails when you want to look for something trying to find that ONE link you sent 3 weeks ago about something vague that you can’t remember.
Weddings and whatnot on Pinterest.
My board is full of mint and gold things, and of course, succulents. My colours are mint and gold, and for centerpieces I want succulents. MIL is a mastermind with anything green, and is already propagating little cuttings to use for favours, and because she grows so many plants, there will hardly be a shortage of plants for the tables. It’s also “green” in the sense that whatever we use can be put back in the ground. As my dress is already in the making, I just need to find shoes. We’re also busy hunting for an outfit for my maid of honor – I won’t have bridesmaids, just someone to hold my bouquet (have you seen how adorable the succulent bouquets are?), and Pinterest is a wealth of inspiration. We’ve been umming and aahing about a mint dress for Kim, or gold/champagne, and looking at the photos, I think gold will work much better; I’m even debating swapping out mint shoes for gold, but I will see how I feel.
As I’m sure you can see we’re well into planning mood. If you have any handy sources of inspiration, let me know, I’d love to hear from you!
